Increase in minimum wage rates in federal and state awards

Changes have been made to the minimum wage rates in federal and state awards by the Fair Work Commission and the Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission respectively.

Federal

The National Minimum Wage and all minimum award wages in federal modern awards will increase from the first full pay period starting on or after 1 July 2024.

This year, the Fair Work Commission has decided that:

State

The Western Australian Industrial Relations Commission has increased the state minimum wage and pay rates in all WA awards effective from the first full pay period on or after 1 July 2024.

  • The state minimum wage for employees 21 and over will increase to $918.60 per week.
  • Minimum rates for younger workers and award free trainees and apprentices will also increase.
  • Rates of pay in WA awards will increase by 4%, with rates of pay for some WA award adult employees 21 years and older increasing by more than 4% to align with the new state minimum wage of $918.60.
