Motorists advised to shop around

Have you noticed a 20 to 30 cent increase in the price of fuel this morning? Today marks the beginning of a the first fortnightly fuel cycle without the relief of the Government's fuel excise cut, which came into effect on 30th March 2022 and ended last week. During an interview with The West Live on 4th October 2022, MTA WA Group CEO Stephen Moir provided the advice on how to alleviate some of the anticipated pain that rising fuel prices might cause to households.

1. Check FuelWatch and shop around. Customers can impact market prices simply by being more choosey about where they fuel up.

2. Type pressure is a factor that is usually underestimated. Motorsists should be checking their tyre pressure every two weeks

3. Ensure that vehicles are serviced and running as efficiently as possible.

4. Drive less aggressively, and take it easy on the accelorator and breaks.

The fuel excise cut has cost the Government $3 billion. The MTA WA was one of the groups that lobbied for its implementation and is thankful to the past and current Government for allowing the initiative to be effective for the full six months that it was proposed for. Whilst more assistance is welcome, it's important to remember that this money funds road maintenance. As a result, there will be no more decreases to the cost of fuel for the foreseeable future and motorists are encouraged to engage in more fuel-efficient practices.
