The peak body for Western Australia’s automotive industry has launched an international search for skilled workers to help local businesses overcome the challenges caused by ongoing skills shortages.
Motor Trade Association of WA (MTA) CEO Stephen Moir will travel to the UK & Ireland next week with expert migration agent Perdaman Global Services to promote the employment opportunities in WA and meet with qualified tradespeople who are interested in applying for a sponsored position.
A State Government business delegation, led by Police and Defence Industry Minister Paul Papalia, has scheduled its tour to align with the MTA, resulting in several joint events and meetings.
Mr Moir said the association’s decision to undertake the trade mission is a direct result of industry consultation and is the first step in what is likely to become a broader, long-term member service.
“Many of our members have vacancies they simply cannot fill with local employees,” Mr Moir said.
“In November 2022, we asked for expressions of interest in an international campaign - and almost immediately had commitment from 50 member employers that are willing and able to sponsor skilled migrants to fill their vacancies.”
“Since then, we have been working with local migration agent Perdaman Global Services to prepare the participating members and have developed internal systems to manage this campaign and enable future initiatives.”
Mr Moir said this mission is particularly valuable for international jobseekers and unique among others.
“Importantly, this campaign will go beyond merely promoting WA’s envious environment and lifestyle.”
“We will be meeting qualified jobseekers in the UK & Ireland to discuss current vacancies – more than 150 at this moment – being offered by Western Australian employers who are ready to host and willing to pay all migration costs for the right candidate.”
“MTA member employers have current vacancies for skilled migrants in almost every sector of the industry, based in every region, with salaries ranging from $60,000 to $120,000+.”
“The MTA has worked hard to pull all the pieces together so it is as easy as possible for skilled migrants to make the move and walk the dream,” Mr Moir concluded.
